Preparing your quilt

  • Be sure the top is reasonably square. An out of square top is difficult to quilt and you are unlikely to be happy with the finished quilting.
  • Trim loose threads, remove stray threads.
  • Press flat.
  • Baste or serge perimeter if the top does not have a straight grain border.
  • Secure seam ends of borders.
  • Backing and batting must be 5” larger all around than quilt top.
  • If you piece your backing, trim off selvage edges before piecing. Secure seam ends and press flat.
  •  Mark the top of your quilt and backing if necessary.
  • Remember that puckers in your piecing may not “quilt out.”

Long Arm Quilting

Binding Service

We can bind your quilt for you using a method learned from Pennsylvania quilter, Ruth Stonesipher. This is a two part, piped binding that is durable and attractive. Binding is machine stitched to back, wrapped to front & machine stitched down.

.20 per linear inch

We will cut and prepare the binding. Include 2 fabrics, one for your desired width of binding (usually 2.25-2.5” wide) and one to make the piping (figure 1" wide) sufficient to bind the quilt plus at least 24” of each to allow for any unusable sections and joining. We will provide the cord for the piping.

We can machine stitch your prepared binding to the front for you to hand stitch down.

.10 per linear inch

Please send at least 24” extra to allow for any unusable sections and joining.

Please visit my quilt gallery to see examples of my work. I understand the time and creativity you have invested in your quilt top and will treat it as the art that it is.
